Around 300 A.D., the spread of Christianity began.  The accession of the Province of Illyria with the name of Macedonia the Second took place, and later it was named the First Justinian, because it was considered to be the birthplace of Justinian.

In the 9th, 10th and 11th Century, Slavic invaders caused considerable destruction until 1018, when King Basel the Second, the Bulgar-Slayer won a final victory against Czar Samuel. With re-accession to Byzantium, many churches and monastic cells were founded.

From 1334 and for about 50 years the Serbs dominated under Stefano Dussan.  In 1386, Prespes falls into the hands of the Turks along with the rest of Western Macedonia.

After the first Balkan war (1912) the southeast portion of the greater part of Prespes, came under Greek control.  Until 1940 it made great economic progress with the development of the co-op movement, its trade with the urban centers and the influx of foreign exchange from its immigrants from abroad.  Its population reached 12,000 residents and many big homes were built.

Unfortunately in the decade of 1940 the area went through difficult times; it was abandoned and deserted. After 1951 the state moved the Vlachos colonists from Epirus and gave them homes and fields, but the area never reached its pre-war heights.
